December 29, 2006 - Painting
The week between Christmas and New Years focused on painting the engine block.
Two crankcases and an oil pan were painted. This requires substantial prep work, in that all mating surfaces and flanges must be masked off. This was accomplished using a set of banks and an oil pan where possible, and a wooden cover (wheel case pad). Masking tape was used elsewhere.
An epoxy based spray paint with ceramic was used. This paint features high temperature resistance, and is chemically impervious to gas and solvents. The color is very close to the original factory "Merlin black."
