By now the sponson frames have been completed and the battens are being glued into place.
The battens are make of laminated oak pieces. Three strips of oak were cut and planned into shape. Then, the top and bottom of the first and the second were covered with West Systems epoxy. Very carefully the first was placed on the boat and held in place while the second piece was laid on top, and then the third on top of it.
The lamination was clamped from side to side to hold the pieces even with each other. The whole affair was clamped to the frames to hold it in proper shape on the sponsons. The extra glue was cleaned off and the lamination was allowed to set overnight.
Then, the lamination was removed and properly fitted. After being sealed with West Systems, the batten was then glued onto the sponson.
The above process was used to make all of the major sponson battens and took a good deal of time.
