Fitting of the primary runners! The day started off with making some rough, oversized primary runners out of 7075-T6 aluminum. From there, the morning was spent fitting one side, and the afternoon the other.
The fitting process involved clamping the piece in place, measuring, marking (scratching the aluminum normally) cutting, trimming, replacing on the boat, etc.
After the runner was fit fairly close, it was drilled and screwed to the boat for final fitting.
The runner is three pieces of aluminum. The nose piece which sits at a different level than the rear part, and the rear part which had to be divided into two pieces because of the length of aluminum on hand.
The other project of the day was fitting the "cups" on the back of the sponsons. These were additions to the boat by Ron Jones and the crew after shortening the sponsons. The "cups" are what gave the boat such recognizable sponsons.
