November 28, 2003 - Hardware: Mounts
This is the final update before the deck is placed on the boat. Hence, this section features a detailed look at the hull as of November 28, 2003. Because of the level of detail, this update has been organized by general categories, and sub-divided by specific categories.
The ADI tank that will be used is the original ADI tank from 1965! This tank was welded up at the Tahoe Miss shop shortly before San Diego 1965, and was bungee corded into the boat under the aft cowl.
A few years ago we found the tank at Bob Gilliams'. The tank is currently being overhauled by Jeff Campbell of the Miss Budweiser team to seal up the leaks. Instead of using bungee cords, the tank will sit in a cradle (shown at right) and will be held in place by bleed bands from a Lycoming T-55L7C gas turbine engine. This will provide a very solid and secure housing for this very unique tank (pictures to come). The tank will be mounted on the left side of the boat, abeam the cockpit between the stringer and the side.
As far as engine mounts go, they have been machined and are ready for mounting on the rails. The mounts will be permanently attached to the rails so that each engine will not have to have its' own set of feet. The mounts have all been helicoiled to reinforce the threads in the aluminum mounts.
For fuel pump mounts, a specially fabricated fuel pump mount that has seen many days of racing for several very successful teams was procured.
