Work is wrapping up on the struts, and the focus is shifting to the deck battens. Since the front deck frame has been placed in position, battens for the deck are being cut, scarfed, and fitted. After the battens have been fitted, each will be sealed with West System epoxy and glued in place. Once this is complete, the decking process can begin.
Also going on this week, Larry Hanson has almost completed the box for the fuel cell. The box is made from aluminum angle and fiberglass. The cell will be placed over the boat's CG on the left side. Dixon has also been working on the ADI (water-alcohol) tank. This tank is the original that was fabricated at the Tahoe Miss shop in 1965 in preparation for the 1965 San Diego race. Having the ADI tank in place will allow for the capability to run water-alcohol injection to help suppress detonation with poor fuels or at high power settings.
